Privacy Policy
Effective Date: May 4, 2026
Introduction
Synestrology ("we," "our," or "us") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and safeguard your information when you use our services, which include one-time Classic Readings (Standard, Premium, Ultimate), free tools (Cosmic Blueprint, Time Travel, the public 2026 calendar), and Observatory, our subscription product.
Information We Collect
The data we collect depends on which part of the service you use.
For all users:
- Birth Data: Full name, date of birth, time of birth, and place of birth
- Contact Information: Email address
- Derived Location Data: Geographic coordinates and timezone, calculated from your birth city and country
- Payment Information: Processed securely by Stripe; we do not store your card details
- Communication Preferences: Whether you have opted in to receive personalized recurring emails
For Observatory subscribers, additionally:
- Account Credentials: Either an email/password pair (password stored as a salted hash by Supabase Auth) or an OAuth identifier from Apple or Google. We never see your raw password.
- Conversation Content: The messages you send to Observatory and the responses generated for you, stored so we can carry context forward across sessions
- Conversational Memory: Astrologically-indexed moments extracted from your conversations (described in the Conversational Memory section below)
- Subscription State: Whether you are on a free trial, active subscription, past-due, canceled, or suspended
- Birth Data for Added Relationships: If you add a partner, family member, or other person's birth data so Observatory can compute synastry between your chart and theirs (described in the Adding Relationships section below)
How We Use Your Information
Your information is used to:
- Calculate your astrological, Human Design, and numerological data
- Generate your personalized synthesis reading or daily Observatory card using AI
- Deliver readings via email and serve Observatory through our website
- Process your payment and, for Observatory, manage your subscription
- Authenticate you when you sign in to Observatory
- Carry context across your Observatory conversations (memory layer)
- Compute synastry between your chart and any relationship birth data you have added
- If you opt in: send personalized lunar readings when the new and full moon activate your specific birth chart (approximately twice per month)
- If you opt in: send occasional seasonal or transit updates personalized to your chart
- For Observatory subscribers: send transactional emails related to your subscription (welcome, trial reminders, payment confirmations, card-declined notices)
We will never send you marketing or recurring lunar emails unless you explicitly opt in. Purchasing a Classic Reading does not subscribe you to any mailing list. Subscribing to Observatory enrolls you in transactional emails about your subscription, which are not optional, but you can cancel the subscription at any time to stop them.
AI-Generated Content
Synestrology uses Anthropic's Claude models to generate personalized content. Your birth data and (for Observatory) your conversation content are sent to Anthropic's API for this purpose. Anthropic processes this data under their Privacy Policy and does not use API inputs to train their models. AI-generated content is not used for any automated decision-making that affects your legal rights.
Specific AI uses:
- Classic Readings: One-time generation of your synthesis reading from your birth data
- Observatory day-one card: A personalized welcome reading generated when your subscription begins
- Observatory daily chat: Each message you send is processed alongside your chart context, recent conversation history, and astrologically-active material to produce a response
- Memory layer: Periodically (typically once per lunar cycle), AI distills your conversation history into anchor moments and a summary capsule, so Observatory can hold context across long stretches without retaining every raw turn forever
- Tool use: Observatory may call back to our own astronomical calculation engine during a conversation to look up transits, lunations, or planet positions for any date you ask about; these lookups happen on our infrastructure, not at Anthropic
Conversational Memory (Observatory only)
Observatory is a daily-engagement product, which means we retain conversational context so the experience feels continuous rather than starting from zero each time. Memory is stored in three layers:
- Recent turns: The most recent messages in your conversation, retained as written, so the next exchange has immediate context
- Anchor moments: Astrologically-indexed moments from your conversations that the system has identified as meaningful (a notable insight, a recurring theme, a moment of resonance with a transit). These persist for as long as your subscription is active.
- Summary capsules: Per-lunar-cycle distillations that compress earlier conversation into a short summary, so older context can be forgotten in detail while the gist is preserved
What this means in practice: Observatory remembers themes and important moments from your earlier conversations, especially when today's sky activates similar coordinates. We do not retain every raw turn forever; older raw turns are compacted into anchors and summaries, then the originals are retired.
Retention: Memory persists for the lifetime of your subscription. If you cancel, your data is preserved (so you can return without losing context); see Your Rights below for full deletion options.
Adding Relationships (Observatory only)
Observatory lets you add the birth data of partners, family members, friends, or other people in your life so the system can compute synastry (the astrological relationship between two charts) and surface it in your daily experience.
When you add someone's birth data:
- You are responsible for ensuring you have permission, or are acting in good faith on publicly available information, before entering data about another person
- The data is stored under your account, indexed by the name you give it
- It is used only to compute synastry against your chart and to generate Observatory content for you about that relationship
- It is never shared with the person whose data you entered, with other Observatory subscribers, or with any third party
- You can ask Observatory to forget a relationship at any time. We delete the relationship's birth data and any anchors specifically tied to that person, immediately.
Material about an added person is never surfaced when you are talking to Observatory about a different added person. Each relationship is its own context.
Subscription Billing and Auto-Renewal (Observatory only)
Observatory is a subscription product. By subscribing, you agree that:
- Your subscription begins with a 7-day free trial. Your card is authorized at signup but not charged until the trial ends.
- If you do not cancel before the trial ends, your card is charged the monthly subscription fee, and the subscription auto-renews monthly until canceled.
- You can cancel at any time from inside Observatory or by emailing us. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period; you retain access until then.
- If a payment fails, we send you a card-declined email with a link to update your payment method, and we retain access for a short grace period before suspending the subscription.
- Reactivating a canceled subscription resumes monthly billing on the date of reactivation; your prior context (chart, conversations, memory anchors) is preserved.
Data Storage, Retention & Security
We store your data as follows:
- Classic Reading buyers (no opt-in): Birth data is held in server memory during reading generation and delivery. Not persisted to a database unless you separately opt in to recurring emails.
- Lunar email subscribers (opt-in): Birth data and email stored in our Supabase database in the United States for as long as you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we stop sending you emails. Your data is retained against your purchase record for accounting integrity; email hello@synestrology.com with subject "Delete my data" to request full deletion.
- Observatory subscribers: Account credentials (managed by Supabase Auth), birth data, conversation history, memory anchors, summary capsules, subscription state, and any added-relationship birth data are stored in our Supabase database. Data is retained for the lifetime of your subscription. If you cancel, data is preserved so you can return; you can also request full deletion (see Your Rights).
- Reading content and PDFs (Classic Readings): Your completed reading is emailed to you directly. Temporary files are deleted after delivery.
- Email delivery records: Maintained by our email provider (Resend) under their retention policies.
- Payment records: Maintained by Stripe under their retention policies. We do not store card details.
- Error logs: May temporarily contain technical context (not birth data or conversation content). Retained for up to 30 days via Sentry.
All data is transmitted using HTTPS encryption. Our database uses encrypted storage at rest. Passwords are salt-hashed by Supabase Auth; we never see them. Payment processing is handled by Stripe, which maintains PCI-DSS Level 1 compliance.
Third-Party Services
We share limited data with the following third-party services to operate our platform:
- Anthropic (Claude AI): Birth data and (for Observatory) conversation content are sent to generate readings, daily cards, chat responses, and memory-layer summaries. Anthropic does not use API data for model training. (Anthropic Privacy Policy)
- Supabase: Database hosting and authentication. Stores birth data, email, account credentials (for Observatory), conversation history, and memory data. Data is encrypted at rest. (Supabase Privacy Policy)
- Stripe: Payment processing and subscription billing. Receives your email and payment details. (Stripe Privacy Policy)
- Apple Sign In and Google Sign In (Observatory only): If you choose to sign in via Apple or Google, that provider authenticates you and shares a verified email address with us. (Apple Privacy Policy, Google Privacy Policy)
- Resend: Email delivery. Receives your email address and email content. (Resend Privacy Policy)
- GeoNames: Location lookup. Receives your birth city and country to determine coordinates and timezone. This is a public geographic database. (GeoNames)
- Railway: Cloud hosting. (Railway Privacy Policy)
- Sentry: Error monitoring. May receive technical error context; configured to minimize personal data. (Sentry Privacy Policy)
- PostHog: Anonymous analytics. Runs in cookie-less, memory-only mode. No cookies or persistent storage set, no cross-session user tracking. Captures event-level data (page views, feature usage, traffic sources) with a per-session random identifier that resets on page reload. (PostHog Privacy Policy)
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to any third party. Data is shared only as described above, solely to provide our service.
International Data Transfers
Your data may be processed in the United States by our service providers (Anthropic, Stripe, Railway, Resend). If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, these transfers are conducted in accordance with applicable data protection laws.
Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access: Request confirmation of whether we hold any personal data about you, and a copy of that data
- Deletion: Request deletion of your personal data
- Objection: Object to our processing of your data
- Withdraw Consent: Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time
For lunar email subscribers: You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send. Unsubscribing will delete your stored birth data within 30 days.
For Observatory subscribers, three actions with different effects:
- Cancel subscription: Stops billing at the end of your current period. Your account, chart, conversations, and memory are preserved so you can return without losing context. Take this action from inside Observatory.
- Forget a relationship: Removes a specific added person's birth data and any anchors tied to that relationship. Your own data is unaffected. Ask Observatory to do this directly.
- Delete your data: Permanently removes your account, chart, conversation history, memory anchors, summary capsules, and all added-relationship data. This is irreversible. Email us with the subject "Delete my data" to initiate.
For any data request not covered by the actions above, email us at hello@synestrology.com with the subject line "Data Request" and we will respond within 30 days.
If you believe your data protection rights have been violated, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Legal Basis for Processing (EEA/UK Users)
If you are in the EEA or UK, our legal basis for processing your personal data is:
- Consent: You provide your birth data and consent to its processing when you place an order or use our free tools. Recurring emails require a separate, explicit opt-in
- Contract: Processing is necessary to deliver the reading you purchased
- Legitimate Interest: Error monitoring and service improvement (minimized to avoid impact on your rights)
Cookies & Analytics
We do not set analytics cookies. We use PostHog for anonymous, cookie-less analytics. PostHog runs in memory-only mode: no cookies are set, no data is stored in your browser, and your session identifier is randomly generated and reset on every page load. We can see aggregate patterns (which pages are visited, which features are used, where traffic comes from) but we cannot identify you, link your activity across visits, or build a profile of you over time.
Essential cookies and storage (Observatory only): If you sign up for Observatory, our authentication provider (Supabase Auth) stores a session token in your browser to keep you signed in. This is a functional, strictly-necessary technology required for the product to operate after you've created an account. It is only set after you sign up or sign in, never for anonymous visitors, and is not used for tracking.
Because no analytics cookies are set and no cross-session tracking occurs, no consent banner is required under GDPR, ePrivacy, or CCPA. We made this choice deliberately to reduce privacy friction and respect visitor trust.
Children's Privacy
Our service is not intended for individuals under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.
Data Breach Notification
In the unlikely event of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify affected users via email and, where required by law, relevant regulatory authorities within the timeframes required by applicable law.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. If we make significant changes to how we handle your data, we will notify you via email or a prominent notice on our site.
