Synestrology ("we," "our," or "us") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and safeguard your information when you use our service.
Information We Collect
To generate your personalized reading and provide ongoing services, we collect:
- Birth Data: Full name, date of birth, time of birth, and place of birth
- Contact Information: Email address (for delivery of your reading and, if you opt in, personalized lunar updates)
- Derived Location Data: Geographic coordinates and timezone, calculated from your birth city and country
- Payment Information: Processed securely by Stripe; we do not store your card details
- Communication Preferences: Whether you have opted in to receive personalized recurring emails
How We Use Your Information
Your information is used to:
- Calculate your astrological, Human Design, and numerological data
- Generate your personalized synthesis reading using AI
- Deliver your reading via email
- Process your payment
- If you opt in: send personalized lunar readings when the new and full moon activate your specific birth chart (approximately twice per month)
- If you opt in: send occasional seasonal or transit updates personalized to your chart
We will never send you recurring emails unless you explicitly opt in. Purchasing a reading does not subscribe you to any mailing list.
AI-Generated Content
Your reading is generated using artificial intelligence (Anthropic's Claude) to synthesize your astrological, Human Design, and numerological data into a personalized narrative. Your birth data is sent to Anthropic's API for this purpose. Anthropic processes this data under their Privacy Policy and does not use API inputs to train their models. The AI-generated reading is not used for any automated decision-making that affects your legal rights.
Data Storage, Retention & Security
We store your data as follows:
- Birth data and email (if you opt in to lunar updates): Stored in our database (hosted by Supabase in the United States) for as long as you remain subscribed to personalized emails. If you unsubscribe, your birth data is deleted within 30 days. If you never opt in, your birth data is held only temporarily in server memory during reading generation and is not persisted.
- Birth data (paid readings without opt-in): Held in memory during reading generation and delivery. Not written to a persistent database unless you separately opt in to recurring emails.
- Reading content and PDFs: Your completed reading is emailed to you directly. Temporary files are deleted after delivery.
- Email delivery records: Maintained by our email provider (Resend) under their retention policies.
- Payment records: Maintained by Stripe under their retention policies. We do not store card details.
- Error logs: May temporarily contain technical context (not birth data or personal details). Retained for up to 30 days via Sentry.
All data is transmitted using HTTPS encryption. Our database uses encrypted storage at rest. Payment processing is handled by Stripe, which maintains PCI-DSS Level 1 compliance.
Third-Party Services
We share limited data with the following third-party services to operate our platform:
- Anthropic (Claude AI): Birth data is sent to generate your reading. Anthropic does not use API data for model training. (Anthropic Privacy Policy)
- Stripe: Payment processing. Receives your email and payment details. (Stripe Privacy Policy)
- Resend: Email delivery. Receives your email address and reading PDF. (Resend Privacy Policy)
- GeoNames: Location lookup. Receives your birth city and country to determine coordinates and timezone. This is a public geographic database. (GeoNames)
- Supabase: Database hosting. Stores birth data and email for users who opt in to recurring personalized emails. Data is encrypted at rest. (Supabase Privacy Policy)
- Railway: Cloud hosting. (Railway Privacy Policy)
- Sentry: Error monitoring. May receive technical error context; configured to minimize personal data. (Sentry Privacy Policy)
- PostHog: Analytics (only if you consent). Collects anonymous usage data. (PostHog Privacy Policy)
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to any third party. Data is shared only as described above, solely to provide our service.
International Data Transfers
Your data may be processed in the United States by our service providers (Anthropic, Stripe, Railway, Resend). If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, these transfers are conducted in accordance with applicable data protection laws.
Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access: Request confirmation of whether we hold any personal data about you
- Deletion: Request deletion of your personal data
- Objection: Object to our processing of your data
- Withdraw Consent: Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time
If you have opted in to recurring emails, you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send. Unsubscribing will delete your stored birth data within 30 days. If you did not opt in to recurring emails, we do not retain your personal data after your reading has been delivered. For any data request, email us at hello@synestrology.com with the subject line "Data Request" and we will respond within 30 days.
If you believe your data protection rights have been violated, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Legal Basis for Processing (EEA/UK Users)
If you are in the EEA or UK, our legal basis for processing your personal data is:
- Consent: You provide your birth data and consent to its processing when you place an order or use our free tools. Recurring emails require a separate, explicit opt-in
- Contract: Processing is necessary to deliver the reading you purchased
- Legitimate Interest: Error monitoring and service improvement (minimized to avoid impact on your rights)
Cookies & Analytics
We use PostHog for analytics to understand how visitors use our site. PostHog is only loaded if you consent via our cookie banner. If you decline, no analytics data is collected.
Essential cookies: We do not currently use essential cookies (no login sessions or shopping carts).
Analytics cookies: PostHog (optional, consent-based). Collects anonymous usage data such as page views, device type, and referrer. Does not track individual users across websites.
You can change your cookie preferences at any time by clicking "Cookie Settings" in the footer of our site.
Children's Privacy
Our service is not intended for individuals under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.
Data Breach Notification
