New Moon in Taurus: Last Seed Before the Ground Changes
The New Moon on May 16, 2026 lands at 26 degrees Taurus. Exact at 8:01 PM UTC, which is 4:01 PM Eastern, 1:01 PM Pacific.
This is the first New Moon since Uranus crossed into Gemini three weeks ago. The ground is still settling after that ingress. Whatever you plant this week gets planted in the middle of a transition.
Mercury is sitting 2.7 degrees ahead of the luminaries, a tight conjunction. Uranus is 5 degrees ahead, just over the line into Gemini. The lunation is happening on the threshold. What you set down at 26 Taurus has to travel through the gate Uranus just opened.
The collective energy
This week feels like:
- Writing out a plan you’ve been carrying in your head for months and seeing it’s shorter than you thought
- A decision you’ve been avoiding becoming obvious the minute you stop trying to decide
- Saying “I think I’m actually ready” out loud and surprising yourself
- The feeling of your body being one step ahead of your brain
- Knowing exactly what you want to plant and knowing the season has one foot out the door
- Choosing the boring correct option and feeling relief instead of disappointment
What the body already knows is ready to be named. Taurus is the sign of the slow yes. It doesn’t move until it’s sure. Paired with Mercury this close to the luminaries, the knowing is ready to become a sentence. The New Moon wants you to speak it. Not because speech is the goal. Because speaking is what takes a Taurus knowing and seeds it into the rest of your life.
May 2026 is a Universal Month 6: responsibility, care, home, the people you’re accountable to. New Moons in Taurus are already about foundation. The 6 underlines it. Whatever you seed this week has a home-and-care flavor running through it, even if it doesn’t look like a home question on the surface.
Nervous system care
- Eat real food. Taurus New Moons land in the body through food first. Whatever you’ve been skipping, or grabbing, or eating standing up, reset this week. A proper meal with texture, warmth, actual presence. The seed needs ground.
- Say the thing you’ve been almost saying. Mercury is tight on the luminaries. The New Moon wants a sentence. Half-forming the thought and then abandoning it keeps you circling. Finish the sentence out loud or in writing.
- Move slow enough to feel the ground. Walking, stretching, any form of grounding. Uranus is sitting right past the Sun and Moon, so the nervous system is wired for sudden acceleration. Counter it by slowing down on purpose.
- Use your throat. Taurus rules the throat and neck. Humming, singing, any kind of voice use. Not for a performance, for the body. A tight throat holds unsaid sentences. Loosen it.
- Protect your senses. Taurus is the most sensory sign. Smell, taste, touch, the textures of your space. Small upgrades to the environment around you this week will land deeper than they usually would.
Why this New Moon matters
New Moons in Taurus are seeding moments for value, money, the body, the land, what you want to build that lasts. That’s their usual territory. This one has three features that set it apart from a standard Taurus new moon.
First: it’s late in the sign. 26 degrees. Taurus is finishing its season. The Sun moves into Gemini on May 21. This isn’t an early-Taurus seed planted with a full season ahead. It’s a late-Taurus seed planted right at the edge. What you decide this week doesn’t have forever. It has momentum.
Second: Mercury is tightly conjunct. Mercury at 28 Taurus is 2.7 degrees ahead of the New Moon, within a conjunction orb that actually matters. New Moons conjunct Mercury are about what gets said, what gets decided, what gets written down. The seed of this lunation is linguistic. A word, a yes, a no, a contract, a message, a post, a conversation. Whatever you name this week carries more weight than a usual week’s naming.
Third: Uranus is still in orb. At 1 degree Gemini, Uranus is about 5 degrees past the New Moon by longitude, in the next sign over. That’s a wide conjunction, but it’s real. What this means practically: the stable earth seed you’re planting has already leaned one foot into the new air. The Taurus part of you wants something secure, reliable, sensual, grounded. The Uranus-in-Gemini part of you has already moved on and wants everything to be about language, information, and speed.
You don’t have to choose between these. You have to plant the seed in a way that honors both.
The aspects
Mercury conjunct. Mercury at 28 Taurus, 2.7 degrees ahead of the Sun-Moon conjunction. This is the aspect doing the most work. Every New Moon seeds something. A Mercury-conjunct New Moon seeds something specifically through language and thought. Not every seed needs to be sprouted in earth. Some of them are spoken into the record and become real because they were said. A yes to something. A no to something else. A clear agreement where there used to be an assumption. A decision that’s been cycling in your head becoming a decision you’ve actually made.
Uranus conjunct (wide). Uranus at 1 Gemini, about 5 degrees past. The orb is wider than the Mercury conjunction, but the signal still carries. What you plant this week carries some electrical charge. There’s an element of surprise in it, even if the decision itself is grounded. You may find yourself committing to something you weren’t planning to commit to this week. You may find yourself saying something clearly that you’ve been dancing around. Uranus in wide conjunction is the reason.
Jupiter sextile. Jupiter at 21 Cancer forms a sextile to the New Moon at 4.6 degrees orb. This is the supportive thread. Jupiter in Cancer expands emotional security, family connection, the feeling of home. Sextile to a Taurus New Moon means the growth pathway is open. Whatever you plant this week has emotional nourishment available for it, if you let that in. The seed isn’t planted alone.
Saturn at 11 Aries, Neptune at 4 Aries. Their February conjunction is still within 7 degrees of separation. The new paradigm that opened in Aries earlier this year is still establishing itself in the background. This New Moon plants inside that larger context. Whatever you seed has some of the Saturn-Neptune flavor in it, meaning the decisions that land most cleanly this week are the ones that dissolve an old illusion and build a slightly more honest structure in its place.
The cycle
The last New Moon in Taurus was April 28, 2025, at 10 degrees Taurus. Think back to late April of last year. What were you planting then? What was beginning in your relationship to money, body, values, what you were building?
That lunation happened with Uranus still in Taurus. The one this week happens with Uranus gone. That’s the difference. A year ago, your Taurus seeding happened inside a seven-year Uranus-in-Taurus era. This week, that era is over. You’re planting in the same sign but a different climate.
Look at what you started last April and notice what’s grown, what hasn’t, what’s ready to be dropped, what’s ready to be replanted. Some of what you put in the ground then is ready to flower this year. Some of it is ready to compost. Both are fine. Both are the work.
Sign-by-sign
Read for your rising sign. If you don’t know yours, your Sun sign will give you a general sense.
Aries rising. 2nd house. Money, values, self-worth, possessions, what you own. The New Moon seeds something in your material life and your sense of worth. Mercury here means decisions about income, spending, or what you’re charging for your work. Uranus one house over in your 3rd adds a communication twist. A clarifying conversation about value may be the moment the seed takes root.
Taurus rising. 1st house. Identity, body, presence. This New Moon lands on you. A clean restart in how you show up, how you feel in your body, what you’re claiming as yours. Mercury in your 1st gives you the words for it. Uranus has just moved into your 2nd, shaking up money and values. The identity reset and the money reset are linked.
Gemini rising. 12th house. The unconscious, dreams, rest, what’s behind the veil. Seed something quiet this week. Something that doesn’t need public witness yet. Mercury in your 12th is unusually potent for writing, therapy, and dream work. Uranus has just arrived in your 1st, so a larger identity shift is underway. Let the 12th house seed feed that.
Cancer rising. 11th house. Friends, community, networks, the people you run with. A group, alliance, or online space is ready for a new seed. Mercury here means something gets articulated, named, agreed to. Uranus in your 12th, just past this New Moon, works in the background. You may not see the full shape of the community shift for a few months. Plant what you can name now.
Leo rising. 10th house. Career, public role, visibility, authority. A seed for your work or your professional direction. Mercury here is strong for communication about what you’re doing, applying for something, sending a proposal, naming your next move. Uranus in your 11th means the people who support the work are shifting too. The new seed and the new network will arrive together.
Virgo rising. 9th house. Beliefs, higher education, travel, the bigger picture. A worldview, a teacher, a philosophical framework, or a trip is ready for a new chapter. Mercury in your 9th is excellent for writing, publishing, or formally learning something. Uranus in your 10th has just moved your career-visibility territory into ongoing rewiring. The seed planted in beliefs this week has career implications.
Libra rising. 8th house. Shared resources, intimacy, merged finances, transformation. A money or intimacy arrangement is ready to be named and set down in language. Mercury in your 8th means the clarifying conversation about shared resources, an inheritance, joint investment, or emotional depth is the seed. Uranus in your 9th means your worldview is shifting at the same time as the intimate arrangement.
Scorpio rising. 7th house. Partnership, marriage, close one-on-one relationships. A partnership reaches a clarifying moment. A decision to move forward, a decision not to, a clear agreement about terms. Mercury here gives you the words. Uranus in your 8th, just across the boundary, means shared finances or intimacy is part of the bigger shift. The partnership decision and the resource decision are linked.
Sagittarius rising. 6th house. Daily routines, health, work environment, the body’s regulation. A new daily structure wants to start. A habit, a schedule, a work-life practice. Mercury in your 6th means the structure arrives through conversation, writing, or a specific decision made on paper. Uranus in your 7th means a partner is involved in the rhythm shift.
Capricorn rising. 5th house. Creativity, romance, pleasure, children. A creative project or a romantic situation is ready to be seeded. Mercury in your 5th is the voice for creative work, naming a project, starting to write. Uranus in your 6th, just over the boundary, is shaking up your daily routines, so the creativity you’re planting has to find a time slot that your current schedule doesn’t yet have.
Aquarius rising. 4th house. Home, family, foundations, the private self. A seed for home, for your living situation, for something private and personal. Mercury in your 4th is the conversation that names what you actually want at home. Uranus has just moved into your 5th (creativity, pleasure, children), trine your 1st, while Pluto continues its slow transformation of your own sign. The home seed is inside a larger personal rewiring.
Pisces rising. 3rd house. Communication, siblings, local environment, daily movement. A conversation, a piece of writing, a neighborhood shift, a sibling dynamic. Mercury in your 3rd is in its home element. This is the lunation for you to say the thing, write the thing, start the project that lives in language. Uranus has just arrived in your 4th, beginning a long reshuffle of home and foundation. The words you plant now affect the home reshape.
What you say this week
Most New Moons ask you to plant something. This one asks you to say something.
Mercury conjunct the luminaries means the seed doesn’t have to be a grand action. It can be a sentence. A decision spoken out loud. An agreement that moves from assumed to named. A draft sent. A message written. The voicemail you’ve been meaning to return. The thing you say to yourself in the mirror that you haven’t wanted to say yet.
Uranus in wide conjunction means the sentence may surprise you. You might speak something clearly this week that you weren’t planning to speak. That’s the transit working. Don’t edit it out of existence before it has a chance to land.
The ground is still settling after the Uranus ingress. What you set down this week gets set down on a surface that’s still finding its level. Plant anyway. Taurus is patient enough to wait for the ground to hold. The body knows how to stand on uneven surfaces. It will adjust.
What’s ready to be said is ready because it’s been building quietly, in the slow way Taurus builds. Let it out in the slow way Mercury-in-Taurus speaks. Steady voice, unhurried, clear.
The season is changing. Plant the last earth seed before the air arrives.
